Claude Motion: turn your report into an MP4 without generating video
Claude Motion turns your report into an animated MP4 without a video model: Claude writes code. How it works, who can use it, the math and what can break.
Claude Motion turns your report, charts and images into an animated video and exports it as an MP4, but it is not an AI video generator: Claude writes code that animates the content, so every number and every word can be changed. Anthropic put it in beta on October 8, 2026, for Team and Enterprise plans only.

What Claude Motion is and what changed on October 8
Almost everyone is describing it as another AI video generator, and it is not. On October 8 Anthropic put two features in beta: Claude Dashboards and Claude Motion. Motion takes your text, charts and images, animates them and exports an MP4. Anthropic says it plainly: it does not use a video generation model, so there is no generated footage and no generated people.
The same day, Docs, Slides and Design left beta and are now on all plans, including the free one. Motion did not: it stays in beta and only for Team and Enterprise. On Enterprise it ships off until an admin turns it on.
How it works inside: the number lives in the code
A video generator draws pixels, and pixels can distort text or a figure. Motion does something else: Claude writes code that animates text, charts, shapes and images. Every word, every number and every timing lives in that code. That is why Anthropic says you can change one detail, such as a word, a figure or the duration, and everything else stays as it was. It matters because a results video with a distorted number is worse than no video.
Step by step: from your report to the MP4
- Ask for it: in Claude you ask for an animation in the chat, or you open the Artifacts tab and pick the Motion template.
- Give context: Anthropic's guide asks for four things: who it is for, where it will be shown, how long it should run, and the content you attach, for example your quarterly report.
- Adjust: Claude returns the animation. If you dislike something, you ask in the conversation, like the guide's example of slowing down the second scene, or you open the code and tweak it yourself.
- Watch your quota: each animation counts against your plan's usage, and long or complex ones use more. If you run out, simplify before retrying.
- Check and export: compare every figure in the video against your report. Then export the MP4, or use Share to get a link; the animation starts private.
A practical tip: ask for the duration in your first message so you do not redo everything later.
The math: $500 divided by $25
According to Wyzowl's 2023 survey, 30% of video marketers say they lack the time to create video, and 42% spend between $0 and $500 per video. A Standard Team seat costs $20 a month billed annually, or $25 if you pay month to month. Take the $500 ceiling: $500 divided by $25 is 20 months of a monthly seat, or 25 months at the annual price.
Heads up: that seat does more than Motion, and Motion uses your quota. And the fair comparison is not against a video generator, but against the outside editor who charges you for every change today. It is the most you save per video, not what you always save.

Three business cases (WAiBOT analysis)
The three cases are WAiBOT analysis, not official Anthropic examples.
- The all-hands: the finance lead at a 20-person company walks in with the quarterly report and leaves with 30 animated seconds: revenue, margin and a chart that climbs. It is almost Anthropic's own example. Each quarter you change the figures and the rest stays. There is no extra charge: usage comes out of the Team plan you already pay for.
- Customer onboarding: a software startup with a hard-to-explain product walks in with screenshots and setup steps and leaves with an animated walkthrough for each new customer. Because the text lives in the code, when a button changes you fix one line. But someone has to remember to update the video, because the tool will not do it for you.
- Monthly agency recap: Dashboards connects to a data warehouse such as Snowflake or BigQuery and shows every query behind each chart; Motion could animate what the dashboard found. That pairing is our inference: Anthropic does not document it as a workflow.
How to apply it in your business?
The five-fact brief for your first animation:
- Who the video is for, for example the all-hands or a new customer.
- Where it will be seen: on a meeting room screen, in an email or on social.
- How long it runs; start at 30 seconds, like Anthropic's example.
- Attach the real content, the report, the table or the steps, instead of describing them.
- Before exporting, compare every figure against your source (this step is WAiBOT's).
Do not debut the tool with the important video: make a throwaway test first. And if you want another way to leave work running in the background, read our breakdown of Claude Cowork in the cloud.
Who it is not for
- Anyone on Free, Pro or Max, because Motion is not included in those plans.
- Anyone who needs people, filmed product or realistic scenes, because Motion does not generate footage or people.
- Anyone on Enterprise whose admin has not turned it on, because it ships off.
The objection: isn't it just an animated presentation?
There is something to that: Motion does not invent a new genre or make a movie, and Canva, PowerPoint and other tools already animated presentations. But a video with numbers ages as soon as a number changes, and here the number is a line of code Claude can change if you ask. That is an inference from the mechanism, not a demonstration: WAiBOT has not tested the beta. The objection wins when your video never changes or a presentation is enough. The best move is to take a real report you already redo every month and measure how long it takes, not how much the announcement promises.
Where the 45 million figure comes from
The announcement mentions more than 45 million documents, presentations and designs created in Claude. Anthropic publishes it and measures it, and it adds up Docs, Slides and Design, not Motion. Motion has just launched and there is no figure for how many videos have been made. There is no independent count either. The claim that any number can be changed is the maker's statement: the check is to export, open the code and compare each number against your source. Never publish a results video without that review.
What can break
- Unpublished limits: the support guides reviewed list no limits on length or resolution of the MP4. Find them out with your first video, not the important one.
- The quota: each animation counts against your plan, and complex ones use more. The first error may be running out of usage midweek.
- It is a beta: Anthropic itself calls it that, and features can change.
- More editing: Anthropic lists Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI and Runway; Canva and Captions come later.
Frequently asked questions
What is Claude Motion? A beta Claude feature that turns your report, charts and images into an animated video you can export as an MP4.
Does Claude Motion generate AI video? No. Anthropic says it does not use a video generation model: Claude writes code that animates the content.
Who can use Claude Motion? Only Team and Enterprise plans. On Enterprise it ships off until an admin turns it on.
How much does it cost? There is no separate charge: usage comes out of your plan. A Standard Team seat costs $20 a month billed annually or $25 month to month.
Can I change a number later? According to Anthropic, yes: you change a word, a figure or the duration and the rest stays the same. Verify it by comparing against your source.
Conclusion
Claude does not make video: it programs animations, which is something else, duller and perhaps more useful. The real question is how many of your videos are numbers that change every month.
